We get asked one main questions numerous times…and that is what program will be best suited for me to volunteer at? We normally always advise that this is such a tricky question to answer as there are so many great and wonderful programs out there…but each person would only know their own needs and preferences.

However, there are a few guidelines to make this choice a bit easier:

1. First decide what broad category you would like to participate in.

Here, the main thing is to decide on what type of volunteering such as wildlife, conservation, wildlife + conservation, teaching, children…and the list goes on. From here, we can then narrow it down.

2. Decide where you want to do it.

Once you have an idea of what you want to do, this narrows it down greatly, and now you can decide where you want to do it. So for example, for big 5 wildlife conservation volunteering programs, Africa would be ideal for this.

3. How long do you want to do it?

Now we’re getting somewhere! So the decision has been made on what to do and where to do it, but now is the time to see how long you want to spend doing it. This is important as some programs have minimum stays, and others maximum stays, and of course, a sweet spot somewhere in the middle (recommended time).

4. Most important..what is your budget?

The last detail of the trip is the budget. We all have big dreams, but sometimes our budgets don’t match those dreams. So it is best to always have a realistic budget in mind, bearing in mind that the end cost of programs can sometimes be as much as double the program fee (for items such as flights, food, excursions, spending money etc). So make sure you budgeted enough.

Once you’ve gone through step 1-4, you know where to reach us and we’ll be happy to turn your dream into the ultimate memory!
